The subject of divorce is contentious enough. But the subject of divorce and remarriage is even more so. Part of the difficulty lies in different approaches to scriptural teaching and part resides in how the background to it is to be understood.
In this careful exegetical study Stephen Clark considers first of all the key passages of the Old Testament and then the teaching of Jesus. He next examines the writings of Paul, and concludes with some pastoral case studies in which he seeks to apply the principles which he has elicited from Scripture.
Because this book has been written with pastors and church leaders in mind the author has confined his discussion of technical matters to the end notes to each chapter. The book can therefore be read both as a pastoral treatment of a pressing issue and as a work of biblical scholarship. Either way Stephen Clark has made an important contribution to a continuing debate.
